RingConn's Lord of the Rings promotion assumes smart ring wearers want to be like Gollum
Monday, June 22, 2026
RingConn leaned into a Lord of the Rings tie-in for its smart ring marketing, invoking themes of "meaningful transformation" and "intentional daily choices" — which is a bold move given that the One Ring's entire narrative arc is about the catastrophic consequences of wearing it obsessively. The Verge's Victoria Song points out the obvious contradiction: Frodo's whole mission was to not wear the ring and ultimately throw it into a volcano, which is the opposite of the 24/7 wear RingConn is selling. It's a fun bit of brand own-goal energy, and a good reminder that the marketing team and the lore team don't always talk.
